Below is a summary of default setting notes
Galactic Hegemonic Alliance
The overwhelming, large, and monolithic governmental body that rules the galaxy from the galactic core. The game starts in the year 1261 since the founding of the Hegemony. The Hegemon is, in theory, elected by the High Council, which consists of nobles, guilds, and religious leaders.
Precursors/Ur
The most advanced technology used by the Hegemony, especially for space travel and artificial intelligence, is stuff that was left behind by an extinct race (or races) that are referred to as either the Precursors or the Ur. Their technology is referred to alternately as “Ur artifacts” or “urtech.” Robots that use Ur AI cores are referred to as urbots in order to differentiate themselves from drones. Urbots are arguably sentient, while drones are more like really clever Roombas.
The Way
A mystical force power that flows through the galaxy is the center of many religions. It grants psychic abilities and is also used by most Ur artifacts. All PCs can “attune to the Way” even if they are not a mystic. Whether they view it as psychic ability or a symbol of their faith or just intuition depends on the character.
Travel
Interplanetary travel normally takes months. With jumpdrives, ships can travel through hyperspace to travel from one planet to another in a matter of days instead of months.
Interstellar travel is accomplished using jumpgates that are located at the outer edge of a star system.
Procyon Sector
The Hegemony started expanding into the sector about a century prior. The sector is about as far from the heart of the Hegemony as one can get. It is nominally ruled over by House Malklaith. The Sector Governor, Ritam al’Malklaith, is considered a disgrace by his family and was assigned to the sector as a punishment.
The sector consists of four star systems with five heavily settled planets, a dozen or so large space stations and smaller planetary settlements, and scads of rest stations, bolt holes, and other places where the criminal type might hide from the world.
